PHILOSOPHY

At that moment when the horse underneath you becomes as though it were an extension of your own body and appears to be in tune with the very thoughts in your head, results in a feeling of utter exhilaration for any rider!  The basic principles of classical dressage are the foundation for balanced and safe riding in any type of saddle.  They are fundamentals that cannot be ignored, because they are based upon the psychology, instincts, progression of physical development, and the laws of physics that apply to the sport!  Keeping horse/rider center of gravity aligned at all times promotes riding harmony.

Horsemanship or equitation involves so much more than just sitting pretty on your horse.  It encompasses how you care for him, your knowledge of his needs (both the physical and mental) and how you communicate with him.  Communication with these beautiful animals begins on the ground and should continue while mounted.  It should be attuned to their instincts, natural behavior and individual personalities.  Faulty equitation and lack of knowledge of these basic principles of riding can lead to all manner of unsafe situations (unbalanced riders and/or horses).  Riders need to make split second decisions and adjust their position accordingly, constantly adopting a "back to basics" mentality.  Simply put:  "Function follows form."  Your form impacts your horse's ability to function underneath you!  Your knowledge and diligent practice of this will keep you and your horse safe and working together for many rides to come.
