INSTRUCTION

Charlene's primary focus during instruction is harmony and balance of horse and rider.  She began her years of teaching in 1989 at a horsemanship camp in Ohio as Riding Program Director and Assistant Stable Manager. In 1990 she received her Level 1-4 English and Level 1-3 Western Certification from Certified Horsemanship Association.   She has taught at various barns and equestrian programs in the Greater Pittsburgh and Western Ohio areas over the years.  She has continued her education by taking lessons and courses, auditing seminars and participating in and auditing clinics from top level international riders and trainers. She served as the 2012-13 Westminster College Equestrian Team hunter seat equitation coach competing in the Intercollegiate Horse Showing Association (IHSA).  She is a US Pony Club D & C examiner/ rater.  She is a professional member of the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA), United States Equestrian Federation (USEF), and the Western Pennsylvania Professional Horsemen's Association (WPaPHA) currently serving as Chairman.

She has enjoyed teaching all ages and levels of students over the last 24 years from special needs and physically challenged riders, pleasure riders and serious competitors.  She is very excited to be working with her students, whatever their level, in setting attainable short and long term goals.  She is a firm believer in coaching them to success, whether it be for pleasure or toward competitive riding.  She earnestly desires for them to come to a deep understanding of the incredible relationship between horse and rider.  She teaches with a strong emphasis on proper, classical equitation and how it directly relates to the horse's ability to perform under the rider. The success of her students speaks for itself.  Lessons are available for those wishing to ride Hunt Seat, Jumping, Dressage and Western Dressage.

ON YOUR HORSE

Instruction can be given on your horse or a horse you are leasing at your location.  You must have permission from your boarding facility to bring in outside instructors.  There may be fees for use of the arenas at your facility and you will be responsible to pay those in addition to the half hour or hourly lesson charge.  Lessons often include homework or video / photo review of your rides.  This experience is specifically tailored to you and your horse!

ON A SCHOOL HORSE

What if I don't have my own horse?!  If you don't own your own horse you can schedule a lesson with Charlene at the Riding School at Cedar Run Farms in Allison Park, PA.  Contact her directly or leave a message at the school to schedule your lesson on one of the fabulous school horses there.  There are a variety of lesson horses for children and adults alike, as well as for beginners through more advanced riders.

FOR YOUR LEVEL

You will be encouraged to set both long term and short term goals at the onset of instruction.  The goals of a serious show competitor may not be the same as those of the occasional pleasure rider.  That's okay!  This experience is customizable to your level of interest and whatever that may be.
